The data set from unit 1 is: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 7, 8, 9, 9, 11, 11, 11, 12, 12, 13, 14, 16, 16, 17, 17, 18, 18, 19, 20, 20, 21, 22, 22, 22, 23, 24, 25, 25, 25, 26, 26, 31, 31, 33, 33, 36, 44, 44, 44, 45, 47, 49)
(Unit Outcomes:
- Compute the range, variance, and standard deviation of a dataset.
- Construct a boxplot and five-point summary of a given dataset.
- Analyze a dataset using measures of spread.
Course Outcome:
HS311-4: Examine summary statistics of health data in terms of variability.
PC-1.3: Apply conflict management skills to resolve issues and/or build team alliances.)
Part 1: Using the data collected from the Data Collection Discussion in Unit 1, calculate the standard deviation of the dataset. In addition, calculate a five-number summary for the dataset and construct a boxplot using the tools in Word. (You need only to estimate the boxplot using the results of the five-number summary using the shape tool in Word.)
Then provide the following:
- Explain the steps you followed to calculate the standard deviation in your own words.
- Based on the standard deviation, five-number summary, and boxplot, summarize your conclusions regarding the variability of the dataset.
Part 2: Imagine that you had a disagreement with your colleague about how you would present the results of this analysis. You wanted to include a boxplot, but your colleague only wanted to include the standard deviation. Using standard principles of conflict resolution that you research from the web or Library, explain what you would do to resolve this conflict.
