The paper required for this course will be a research proposal
(8-10pages) on a topic of your choice that is related to issues
surrounding race, crime and punishment. The most important aspect of
this paper is the definition of a problem- i.e., a question that is
sociologically interesting and answerable. The proposal should include a
summary of the literature in the substantive area, a description of the
data that would be required to answer the question, and the methods
that would be employed to collect the data.
