Assignment Content

  1. Imagine this scenario: You are responsible for teaching undergraduate public health students about social justice and health equity. To do that, you and your learning team members will each select your own topic to present to a group of undergraduate students over multiple class meetings. For example, you will present in the Tuesday meeting and another team member will present in the Thursday meeting.

Each student within the team will select a social justice and health equity topic.

Confirm that no one on your team has the same topic and ensure that your group members’ topics are not too similar.

Choose 1 of the following learning activity types to incorporate into the individual lesson plan outline that each student will be creating.

Note: Although this is part of your individual lesson plan outline, each team member should select a different learning activity type, unless there are more than 4 team members.

    • Brainstorming: Ask students to think of examples of interventions needed to aid public health inequalities. If this option is selected, the accompanying student activity instructions must include specific prompts and brainstorming tips.
    • Small group discussion: Provide student groups with a true or false survey about public health inequalities to discuss and answer before introducing the topic. If this option is selected, the accompanying student activity instructions must include discussion prompts.
    • Role-playing: Ask students to role-play a scenario related to public health inequalities and/or presenting interventions. If this option is selected, the accompanying student activity instructions must include a 1-paragraph scenario description.
    • Reflect-pair-share: Ask students to share their understanding of and perspectives on social justice and health equity with a partner, and then share out in a whole class discussion. If this option is selected, the accompanying student activity instructions must include 2 or 3 discussion prompts.

Each student within the team will create a lesson plan outline (about a 350- to 700-words) to present to your team about your selected topic that includes:

    • The concept of social justice and health equity
    • 2 specific examples of health inequalities
    • Health interventions aimed at creating a more just and equitable society in terms of health
    • 1 or 2 activity objectives
    • A 1-paragraph activity introduction script for the instructor
    • Student activity instructions that are specific to the learning activity type that you selected
    • Tips to help the instructor effectively lead the activity
    • An instructor activity closure script that wraps up learning and helps students organize the information into meaningful context

As a team, create a 1-page summary (350 words) that explains how each team member’s topic worked together to teach the concept of social justice and health equity.

Cite any references used to support your assignment. A minimum of two references are included per lesson plan. One or more sources will be scholarly.

Format your summary and citations according to APA guidelines.

Collect each team member’s lesson plan outline and cut/paste the plans into one document.

One team member will submit all lesson plans in one document. The team summary will be included within the document as well (included above the lesson plans).
