The Harlem Renaissance literary changed the way that African-Americans
perceived their experiences. The literature in particular was a powerful tool
that was used to enlighten the masses. It was the first time in history in
which African-American writers began to embrace their cultural differences and
lament about topics like slavery, segregation, and many other issues that
surrounded Black life in America.
